Why Video is the Internet’s Biggest Trend
As the internet has evolved, there has been a gigantic shift in how people interact with the colossal vat of information the worldwide web holds. At first we were happy to read vast tracts of text on garish backgrounds, then faster connections offered the chance to break up the prose with pictures (mainly cute cat ones), but things have changed once again.
Videos are key to our everyday internet use now, meaning you can watch the cute cats actually moving around and being even cuter as a result! In addition, marketers have embraced the medium because we much prefer to be shown how something works than be told. We can take videos wherever we go – on the train, in a boring meeting at work, even into the toilet if you’re that sort of person. And video is only going to get bigger.
In 2017, video is set to be responsible for 69% of everything a normal user consumes online. That will rise to 82% in 2020 – you can see now why Facebook head honcho Mark Zuckerberg called video a “mega trend, almost as big as mobile.” If anyone should know, it’s him.
There are a number of reasons why video is so huge – firstly, there are loads of places to watch, share and create it – YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook, Pinterest. Secondly, 4G coverage is improving all the time, we now own the necessary hardware to stream it easily and you can also shoot and edit fun films on your phone too!
Blogs are great (especially this one, obviously), but people stick around on a page much video and other multimedia content longer longer. Online video is so popular, big marketers are taking their money out of TV and spending it in internet clips. Users who watch a video about a product are 81% more likely to buy it than those who don’t and those that watch videos they like are extremely likely to share it with others.
Video puts your message across in the simplest manner possible and it leads to more conversions than any other medium!
